Common Ground
Hello and Welcome to the University of Richmond.
As one of our newest members, you should know that diversity and inclusion stand alongside learning as core institutional values. The most concrete manifestation of these commitments to diversity and inclusion is Common Ground, our initiative charged to keep that commitment moving toward action.
From the moment you arrive on campus, you’ll notice the many impacts of the University’s commitment in general and of Common Ground in particular. From orientation programs to course offerings to extra-curricular opportunities, it’s hard to miss the fact that we are on the move, asking hard questions and working together on those core values of inclusion and diversity. We’re glad to have you joining us!
The staff in the Office of Common Ground offer confidential consultations, trainings, and other resources for members of the UR community interested in issues of diversity and social justice. Opportunities to get involved include participating in the annual Allies Institute, a four-day retreat focused on issues of gender, race, sexuality, and social class, as well as through various committees and numerous discussion groups, programs, and educational opportunities.
Because Common Ground is a movement affecting the entire campus community, its success depends on your involvement.
We look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Glyn Hughes, Director
Lisa Miles, Coordinator
