Westhampton College (Women)
Dear New Westhampton College Student,
Welcome to the University of Richmond. You have become part of a very special place.
Westhampton College is the women’s college within the University of Richmond. Women undergraduates who enter the University automatically become part of the Westhampton community, which exists to foster students’ intellectual and personal development and to recognize through important traditions the legacy of women’s education at Richmond. Opportunities for leadership abound in Westhampton College governance, the residence life system, and the Women Involved in Living and Learning (WILL) program. These programs and interactions with the Westhampton College dean’s staff illustrate the benefits of a women’s college within a coeducational setting: we confront problems that young women face, and we provide our students with their own community to share concerns and to develop friendships.
As a Westhampton student, you will be joining a long tradition of progressive women who understand and appreciate that gender education makes them better thinkers and stronger people; you will also be creating opportunities that will be handed down to future generations of Westhampton women. Believe me, it is an exciting place to be!
Your acceptance to this University indicates that you are a person of extraordinary academic ability and a leader in your present setting. We are confident that you will contribute much to Westhampton College and the University of Richmond. Please take a few moments to learn more about the Westhampton College Dean’s Office. In addition, four other student-centered organizations deserve some time and attention: the award-winning Women Involved in Living and Leaning (WILL) program, to which you may apply over the summer; the Westhampton College Government Association (WCGA), where you may explore leadership on Senate or class cabinet; the Honor Councils, which explains our important honor system and ways in which student become active as Honor Council members; and the Westhampton College Residence Life program.
Do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. I am thrilled you will be joining us soon!
Juliette L. Landphair, Ph.D.
