Chinese
Students with experience and/or study of Chinese should place themselves according to the following guidelines and plan to take the Chinese placement test during Student Orientation in August. Students who will be in Richmond at any time during the summer may schedule an appointment to take the test before Orientation.
Final placement into Chinese courses will be completed during the first week of classes.
To determine your appropriate placement in Chinese, answer the following questions:
- Is Chinese spoken in your home? If yes, contact Dr. Jessica Ka Yee Chan, Associate Professor of Chinese Studies, or Dr. Gengsong Gao, Associate Professor of Chinese Studies, for preliminary placement.
- Have you studied Chinese for 1 year in high school? If yes, register for Chinese 101.
- Have you studied Chinese for 2 years in high school? If yes, register for Chinese 101 and plan to take the placement test during Orientation.
- Have you studied Chinese for 3 or more years in high school? If yes, register for Chinese 201 and plan to take the placement test during Orientation.
